About Us

Garstang Pre-school was originally set up in 1967 by a group of mums who wanted to come together to meet other mums and let their children play and make friendships. Over the years Pre-school has enjoyed much success and has grown and developed into a popular and well respected community provision. The pre-school has grown and developed, moving from St. Thomas’s Parish hall, into St.Thomas’ Primary school, then from a portable building into its present site within Rural Wyre Children’s Centre. With the help of parents and local community the Pre-school has a well-established outdoor area for children to play and explore, in February 2016 Pre-school funds went towards the purchase of a wooden BBQ house from which forest school now uses as a base from which to go and explore woodlands on the school grounds.

The pre-school is a private and voluntary organisation registered with Ofsted to provide care and education for babies and young children age from 3 months to 4 years. We are highly proud of achieving outstanding at our last three Ofsted Inspections.

Our aims

We aim to:

• provide high quality care and education for children primarily below statutory school age;
• work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop;
• add to the life and well-being of its local community; and
• offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity.
We are a community based setting and work closely with parents and the local community.

We aim to ensure that each child:

• is in a safe and stimulating environment;
• is given generous care and attention, because of our ratio of qualified staff to children, as well as volunteer parent helpers;
• has the chance to join with other children and adults to live, play, work and learn together;
• is helped to take forward her/his learning and development by being helped to build on what she/he already knows and can do;
• has a personal key person who makes sure each child makes satisfying progress;
• is in a setting that sees parents as partners in helping each child to learn and develop; and
• is in a setting in which parents help to shape the service it offers.

We maintain the ratio of adults to children in the setting that is set though the National Standards for Day Care. This helps us to:

• give time and attention to each child;
• talk with the children about their interests and activities;
• help children to experience and benefit from the activities we provide; and
• allow the children to explore and be adventurous in safety.
